At Kimber Battlefield Tours we want to take you on an unforgettable journey through the art of
warfare by exploring, interpreting and experiencing the battlefields of Europe. To achieve this,
we not only engage you with the scarred landscape and surroundings by studying the topography
and strategies employed, but also, through our professional guides you will hear the human stories of
heroism and valour and learn about the context surrounding the battles both locally and globally.
To allow us to maximise your enjoyment we mainly operate small group tours which allow us to offer a unique and individual experience but we can also cater for larger tours upon request.
Our tours engage with the landscape as much as possible which means we spend less time sitting on a coach. This is because we wholly believe that to fully understand the strategies and human sacrifices involved in any battle we should first engage with the land upon which the battle was fought - to this end we spend the majortiy of our tours exploring the battlefields on foot. Don't worry, we don't walk all the way back again - the transport is sent on ahead to wait for us.
Our tours could be described as 'exceptional' battlefield tours because we only stay in good quality hotels or chateaux where the food and wine is of an excellent standard. We use coach companies that deliver a high standard of travelling comfort, minibus or MPV. We also provide written and illustrated guides to set the battles in context alongside the expert guiding and our guides deliver the tour straight from their own knowledge built up over many years of research and visits and don't read from a pre-prepared script.
Because we offer exceptional battlefield tours you might think we charge exceptional prices but we don't. Just because we think you should be welcomed into an inviting hotel or chateau at the end of every day and entertained with talks and anecdotes from our engaging guides, doesn't mean you should pay handsomely for it. Our prices include Evening Meals + Wine, Breakfasts, Packed Lunches, Accommodation, Travel (except any flights) and pick-ups on route (if you're within a reasonable distance on the route of travel. Check with us before you book) and entrance fees to any of the museums we visit. We can even arrange for shopping or spa days to be had for those whose partners wish to miss a certain element on any given day. Our aim is to make you feel like you've had a holiday as well as a rewarding experience.
The emphasis on quality and small size of our company means that we can accommodate those persons engaged on a pilgrimage to a grave or site, as well as those visiting the battlefields for the first time or even those wishing to expand their knowledge of a particular conflict. Size of group doesn't matter although we try to keep maximum numbers to twelve and minimum to four. Whatever the purpose of your visit we are sure that you will enjoy travelling with like-minded people and will enjoy feeling a part of the Kimber Battlefield Family.
"I've never come across someone who has been so incredibly helpful and so keen to make our trip rewarding and enjoyable. Paul has researched an extraordinary amount of information about our soldier relatives from WW1 which will enormously enhance our experience and understanding. We thought we were quite good at research but he is in another dimension! He clearly loves his subject and that, combined with a real care and desire to enhance our enjoyment has made it a real pleasure to use Kimber. I really can't recommend him highly enough." - Suzy & Simon Frith
